Italian Bookkeeping - Italian Bookkeeping

...In any case, the medieval Italian theory, based on an interpretation of the original historical documents, starts from the records of credits and debts between medieval Italian merchants (personal account records including contributor account records), and then finds the origin of double-entry bookkeeping in the unique practical bookkeeping methods of each city that incorporated monetary and material accounts and nominal account records (the term double-entry bookkeeping did not exist at the time, and the Italian double-classification bookkeeping method was expressed as ``tenere conto de libbro doppio'' in GA Taliente's 1533 book and as ``two books, quaderno doppio'' in D. Manzoni's 1540 book). The oldest book that theoretically systematizes the Italian (double classification) bookkeeping method is usually the Renaissance mathematician Luca Pacioli's Summa de Arithmetica, Geometria, Proportioni et Proportionalita (1494), which systematically describes the Venetian bookkeeping method. However, of the Venetian merchants' books of the time, only the journals and ledgers of the Barbarigo and Sons firm remain, and the manuscript of Della Mercatura et del' Mercante Perfetto by Benedetto Raugeo Cotrugli is said to have been completed in 1458 (it was published in 1573).
