〘Noun〙① A type of oxcart. A cart with a wooden box. It was used by people of all ranks as a handy cart, but around the time of Emperor Ichijo's Choho ( 999-1004 ), it was decided that fifth-ranked people should use straw mat- covered carts and sixth-ranked people should use wooden carts. Later, as the popularity of the ajiroguruma (woven basket) grew, it fell out of use. ※Nishinomiya-ki (c. 969) 17 "Board carts can be used up and down the country (modern times, one for two people)" ② A small cart with only a wooden board laid on it. ※Fuzoku Gaho - Issue 269 (1903) Tsuunkan "Outside are bicycles, rickshaws, children's carts, and itakuma (wooden carts) ."
