〘Noun〙① A type of oxcart. A cart with a wooden box. It was used by people of all ranks as a handy cart, but around the time of Emperor Ichijo's Choho ( 999-1004 ), it was decided that fifth-ranked people should use straw mat- covered carts and sixth-ranked people should use wooden carts. Later, as the popularity of the ajiroguruma (woven basket) grew, it fell out of use. ※Nishinomiya-ki (c. 969) 17 "Board carts can be used up and down the country (modern times, _one for _two people)" ② A small cart with only a wooden board laid on it. ※Fuzoku Gaho - Issue 269 (1903) Tsuunkan "Outside are bicycles, rickshaws, children's carts, and itakuma (wooden carts) ."

〘名〙① 牛車の一種。板張りの箱の車。手軽な車として貴賤の別なく用いられたが、一条天皇の長保（九九九‐一〇〇四）頃、五位は筵張(むしろば)り、六位は板車と定められた。のち、網代車(あじろぐるま)の盛行につれてすたれた。※西宮記（969頃）一七「板車上下通用之〈近代無_二乗用之人_一〉」② 板を敷いただけの小型の荷車。※風俗画報‐二六九号（1903）通運館「外に自転車、人力車、小児車(せうにくるま)、板車(イタクルマ)あり」
