Freedom of Will - Ishi no Jiyu

There are two main approaches to the freedom of will: determinism and non-determinism. The former argues that the will is determined by external factors, including genetic environment, while the latter argues that the will is spontaneous and autonomous. Diverse approaches emerge depending on whether the issue is addressed from a purely theoretical, scientific standpoint, or from the standpoint of legal, moral, and religious human responsibility.

意志の自由についての考え方には、大きく分けて、決定論と自由論（非決定論）という二つの立場がある。前者は、遺伝環境をはじめとする外的要因による意志の決定を説き、後者は意志の自発性、自律性などを説く。問題の取扱いが、純理論的、科学的見地よりするものであるか、あるいは法的、道徳的、宗教的な人間の責任との関係の見地からするものであるかなどによって、多様な展開が生じてくる。
