A dicotyledonous, polypetalous plant. An evergreen or deciduous tree. Leaves are simple. Flowers are generally small and bisexual or unisexual. There are 3-6 sepals and an equal number of petals arranged radially symmetrically, but sometimes petals are absent. There are many stamens. The ovary is stalked, lobed, and has many ovules in a lateral placenta. The fruit is a berry, capsule, or drupe. It is distributed from the tropics to the warm temperate zones, and 93 genera and approximately 1,000 species are known. In Japan, only one species in the genus Zoysia and one in the genus Anemone are found. [Yamazaki Takashi July 21, 2020] In the APG classification, most of the family Salicaceae were merged into the Salicaceae family, and some into the Achariaceae family, so the family Salicaceae has disappeared.
