The administrative center of Aldan District, Sakha Autonomous Republic, in the eastern part of the Russian Federation. It is located in the upper reaches of the Aldan River, a tributary of the Yenisei River. It is located 648 km north of the Bolshoi Neber station of the Trans-Siberian Railway, along the main highway between the upper reaches of the Amur River and Yakutsk. Population: 20,000 (2003 estimate). It is the center of the gold and mica mining industry in southern Sakha. After the discovery of abundant gold deposits in the 1920s, settlements developed and the city was formed in 1939.

ロシア連邦東部、サハ自治共和国、アルダン区の行政中心都市。エニセイ川の支流アルダン川の上流域にある。アムール川上流域とヤクーツク間の幹線自動車道に沿い、シベリア鉄道ボリショイ・ネベール駅から北方648キロメートルの地点である。人口2万(2003年推計)。サハ南部の金と雲母(うんも)の採取業の中心地。1920年代に豊富な産金地が発見されてから集落が発達し、1939年に市が形成された。
