Other fleas that burrow into the host's tissue include the long-legged flea, Neotunga euloidea , which infests pangolins in Zimbabwe, and the long-legged flea, Vermipsylla alacuri , which infests sheep and horses in the Tianshan and Mongolia. Female sand fleas, Tunga penetrans (chigoe, sand flea), found in Africa and tropical America, are known as burrowing fleas because they burrow under the skin of animals with their powerful mouthparts before laying eggs.
