Amagase Dam

...All the water from Shiga Prefecture flows into this river, so the flow rate is large, and the area around the reclaimed land of Oguraike is often flooded. The flood damage caused by Typhoon 13 in September 1953 prompted the development of flood control projects for the Uji River. These included the construction of the Amagase Dam (1964), the relocation of the Araizeki Weir, and the dredging of the Seta River, and the flow rate is regulated by the Amagase Dam and the Araizeki Weir. The Uji Power Station (maximum output 32,500 kW), the Amagase Power Station (92,000 kW), and the pumped-storage Kisenyama Power Station (466,000 kW, all 1997) generate a total of 590,000 kW.

From the Seta River
