...After the Mussolini Cabinet was formed in October 1922, the Matteotti incident that occurred in 1924 became important in the history of anti-fascism. In protest of the assassination of Matteotti, a member of parliament from the Unified Socialist Party, by the Fascists, the anti-fascist parties of the Socialist Party, the People's Party, the Liberal Factions, and the Communist Party formed a separatist parliament (called the Aventine Parliament), asserted the legitimacy of this parliament, and forced the Mussolini Cabinet to resign. A widespread anti-fascist popular movement also arose outside the parliament, putting the government in a difficult position. ...
