...It is mass-produced industrially, with a total production in Japan of over 100,000 tons, of which over 90% is used as the white pigment titanium white, which is the inorganic pigment with the greatest hiding power. It is produced by hydrolysis of an aqueous solution of titanium(IV) sulfate or titanium(IV) chloride, the former of which is called the anatase type, and the latter the rutile type. Most commercially available products are of the anatase type.
