X-ray absorption spectroscopy

...X-ray fluorescence analysis is the same analytical method as X-ray emission analysis, except that it excites atoms in the sample by irradiating them with X-rays, and is also suitable for analyzing metal elements. X-ray absorptiometry is less common than emission methods, but recently EXAFS (extended X-ray absorption fine structure) has been attracting attention as a new means of state analysis.

We can identify materials by the colors we see with our eyes, which can be considered the simplest form of visible spectroscopy, with natural light as the light source and the eye as the detector.
