A global sewing machine company. In 1851, Singer founded IM Singer in the United States. With installment and trade-in sales, the company dominated the global sewing machine market until after World War I. Although the company took a passive approach at one point, it actively diversified into home appliances and office equipment after World War II. In 1963, the company changed its name to its current one. It also has numerous factories overseas, and its sales network spans more than 150 countries. In 1997, the company acquired German sewing machine manufacturer Pfaff, strengthening its foothold in Europe. In September 1999, the company filed for bankruptcy under the Federal Bankruptcy Law. It made major cuts in staff and relocated its factories to low-wage areas. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
