...During the Bunka era (1804-18), Yamada Kazanshi (another name for Chikamatsu Tokusaburo) wrote a joruri play for Takemoto Jutayu based on the long story "Asagao" by the lecturer Shiba Shibasou (often called So), but it never got performed. In 1811 (Bunka 8), a ten-part reading book "Asagao Nikki" with illustrations by Ukoen Ryuro was completed and became widely read and loved, so it was later adapted into a kabuki play titled "Namasha Nikki" at a side theater in Horie, Osaka. Next, Sawamura Tanosuke II, who had come to Osaka, performed Nakano Seisuke's "Keisei Tsukushi no Tsumagoto" in eight acts at the Ichikawa Zentaro Theater (corner theater) in Osaka in January 1814, which was well received. ...

…文化年間(1804‐18)に，山田案山子(近松徳三の別号)が，講釈師司馬芝叟（しばしばそう）の長話《蕣（あさがお）》をもとに竹本重太夫のために書いた浄瑠璃は，上演されずに終わった。1811年(文化8)に雨香園柳浪の挿絵入りの10編の読本《朝顔日記》が成立し，広く読み親しまれたので，その後大坂堀江市の側芝居で《生写蕣日記》と題し歌舞伎化した。次いで，上坂した2世沢村田之助が14年正月大坂の市川善太郎座(角の芝居)で奈河晴助作《けいせい筑紫（つくしのつまごと）》8幕を上演して好評を博した。…
