Blackfin barracuda

A marine fish belonging to the order Perciformes, family Sphyrnaidae. It is widely distributed along the coast of central Honshu from the south. It has a long and slender body, a protruding lower jaw, small eyes, and sharp teeth on both jaws. It has more than 120 small lateral line scales, and each fin is black. It is about 40 centimeters long. Its flesh is white and mild, and has a good flavor when dried, grilled with salt, or boiled. The scientific name of this species, which has been used for a long time, is problematic and is being reviewed.

硬骨魚綱スズキ目カマス科に属する海水魚。本州中部以南の沿岸に広く分布する。体は細長く、下あごが突出し、目は小さく、両あごの歯は鋭い。側線鱗(そくせんりん)は小さくて120枚以上あり、各ひれは黒色。全長約40センチメートル。肉は白くて淡泊であり、干物、塩焼きや煮魚として風味がある。長い間使用されてきた本種の学名は問題があり、検討がなされている。
