In 1964, the All Japan Karate Federation (abbreviated as JKF) was formed by the Prefectural Federation, the All Japan Student Federation, the All Japan Self-Defense Forces Federation, the Business Federation, the Japan Karate Association (Shotokan style), Shito-kai, Wado-kai, Goju-kai, Renbu-kai, and the Rengou-kai, transcending the boundaries of schools. In 1970, the World Union of Karatedō Organization (abbreviated as WUKO) was formed by 33 countries, unifying them into an international organization. World tournaments have been held every two years since the formation of the World Karate Federation, and the number of member countries of the federation is currently 165. …
