...Today, a Landsgemeinde (a direct democratic residents' assembly) is still held in the village of Will. Arnold von Winkelried, the legendary hero of the Battle of Sempach in 1386, is said to have come from this area. A Landsgemeinde is also held in Obwalden, but in the 20th century, there have already been four attempts to abolish it through constitutional amendments, but the residents have decided to keep it.
