…It is said that Aristotle was the first to provide scientific knowledge about honeybees, which are social insects. Much later, in 1670, J. Swammerdam of the Netherlands, in 1793, F. Huber of Switzerland, in 1793, and J. Dzierzon of Poland, in 1841, built on the results of basic biological research on honeybee societies. In 1851, L. Langstroth of the United States developed a movable comb frame, which completely changed the breeding method up to that point and became the catalyst for the establishment of scientific management techniques for beekeeping. In 1857, J. Mehring of Germany invented the artificial comb base, and in 1865, ME von Hruschka of Austria invented the centrifuge for honey collection. Beekeeping was rapidly modernized as an industry, and Western-style beekeeping techniques spread throughout the world. …
