Short-term financing securities issued by the Foreign Exchange Fund Special Account are often abbreviated as FX securities. They are issued to supplement the shortfall in yen funds that the Foreign Exchange Fund Special Account needs to purchase foreign currency. In April 1999, they were merged with Ministry of Finance securities and food securities to become government short-term securities.
