Among other stereoisomers pointed out by van't Hoff, the optical isomerism of allene was proved by William Hobson Mills (1873-1959) et al. around 1935. Stereoisomerism resulting from restricted rotation around a single bond (atropisomerism), which van't Hoff could not have predicted, was discovered by Kenner et al. in the early 1920s. …
