Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a gram-positive bacterium discovered by R. Koch in 1882. It is a long, thin rod-shaped bacterium measuring 2-4 μm in length and 0.2-0.4 μm in width (it is in the same family as Mycobacterium leprae and is very similar). There are three types of the bacterium: human, bovine, and avian, and the first two types infect humans. …
