Typical works include the orchestral piece "Réveil des oiseaux" (1953), "Oiseaux exotiques" (1956), and the piano piece "Catalogue d'oiseaux" (1958). His creative drive showed no signs of waning as he continued into the 1970s and 1980s, producing major works such as the orchestral work From the Canyons to the Stars (1974) and the opera Saint François d'Assisi (1983).
