Oyasu Gorge - Oyasu Gorge

Japanese:
Oyasu Gorge - Oyasu Gorge
A gorge in Minase Village, southeastern Akita Prefecture. It is also called Oyasu Gorge. For about 3km upstream on the Minase River, from Katsurazawa to near Takinohara, the tuff gorge rises to about 50m. The intermittent horizontal eruptions of hot water from cracks in the rock walls are a spectacular sight, with the large eruptions being the most representative example. A simple open-air bath has also been built in the riverbed, and is beautiful in the autumn foliage season. On the southern bank of the upper part of the gorge is Oyasu Onsen (hydrogen sulfide spring, 98°C), which developed from a hot spring resort, and is accessible by bus from Jumonji Station on the Ou Main Line, even in winter.
