Itakura clan new style

It is said to have been enacted by Kyoto Shoshidai Itakura Katsushige during the Keicho era (1596-1615), and is a law code concerning civil administration in general. The number of articles varies slightly depending on the copy, but there are about 60 articles. It is also called a "law book," but it is more of a private memorandum that sets out the standards for administration, and the arrangement and compilation of each article is not organized. The contents are wide-ranging, but the most numerous are articles that directly refer to public affairs, lawsuits, and arbitration, followed by provisions on quarrels, arguments, and disorder, inheritance, boundaries of fields, houses, forests, etc., and pawnbrokerage, and there are also articles closely related to the lives of ordinary people, such as relations between masters and servants, business, farming, roads and bridges, land surveys, prisons, inns, fires, guidelines, and adultery. An analysis of each article reveals that it is characterized by a transitional character from medieval law to early modern law.

京都所司代板倉勝重(かつしげ)が慶長(けいちょう)年間（1596～1615）に制定したといわれる、民政全般に関する法典。条数は写本によって若干異なるが、約60条。掟書(おきてがき)などともいわれるが、施政の基準を示した私的な備忘録としての性格が強く、各条の配列やまとめ方も整理されていない。内容は多岐にわたるが、公事(くじ)訴訟や裁許について直接言及した箇条がもっとも多く、喧嘩(けんか)口論狼藉(ろうぜき)、相続、畑屋敷山林などの境界、質(しち)などについての規定がそれに次ぎ、そのほか主従・奉公人関係、商売、耕作、道橋、検地、牢舎(ろうしゃ)、旅宿、火災、目安(めやす)、密通など庶民生活に密接する条目がある。各条の分析によると、中世法から近世法への過渡的性格が特徴といわれる。
