...There is also a theory that people started making people walk in vain to commemorate the story of Christ's suffering, when he was sent from Annas (the chief priest) to Caiaphas (the chief priest), from Caiaphas to Pilate (the governor of Judea), from Pilate to King Herod, and from King Herod back to Pilate in early April. In France, April fools are called Poisson d'avril, which means "April fish" and refers to mackerel (maquereau). Mackerel are caught in large numbers in April and used for food, so some say that people who are fooled on April 1st are called April fish, and others say that the origin of the phrase is that the sun leaves Pisces in April.
