Written by Sugita Genpaku. 3 volumes. Unpublished manuscript (later reprinted). After Genpaku was shown by his grandson an account of the Meireki fire written by Kameoka Sozan, a stonemason who was a supplier to the Obama domain, he followed the example of Kamo no Chomei's Hojoki and used Sozan's posthumous manuscript as the first volume, while the second and subsequent volumes continued to describe subsequent natural disasters, concluding with an account of cheers for Matsudaira Sadanobu's appointment as senior councilor in 1787 (Tenmei 7). A book that uses humor and sarcasm in sharp satire to comment on the state of the world. It is valuable as a record of the state of the world from the Meireki to the Tenmei eras. [Katagiri Kazuo]
