Onekotan [island] - Onekotan
A volcanic island in the northern part of the Kuril Islands. Its former Japanese name was Onnekotan Island. It is 315 km2 in area. It is 42.5 km north to south and 11 to 16.7 km east to west. There are two volcanoes, Mount Nemo (Nemo, 1,019 m) in the north and Mount Krenitsina (Kuroishi, 1,328 m) in the south. A small number of fishermen live on the island. Currently occupied by Russia.
