Reinmar von Hagenau (English spelling)

[Lyric Motifs]
In lyric poetry, the Minnesang, which inherited the style of the troubadours, was established, and many songs were written with the highest ideal of loving the service of noblewomen. The Minnesang of its heyday, with Reinmar von Hagenau at its apex, tried to link this love to the love of God, while Walter von der Vogelweide wrote aphorisms that featured low-status girls and sang of worldly love, or wove political statements into them, and Neidhardt (of Reuenthal) and others parodied the confusion of the balance of power between knights and peasants in poems set in rural areas. On the other hand, apart from court poetry, street songs such as Carmina Burana, which were sung by itinerant students and peasants, were thriving.

From [Minnesang]

...On the other hand, the driving force behind the rise of Minnesang was the world-affirming desires of the human group who enjoyed the song of Eros, and the Minnesang poets' attitude towards singing to such people also fluctuated delicately between ethical pretensions and sensual truths, resulting in a unique literary style that enjoys the diversity of nuances that arise from the various combinations of the two. Early Danube poets der Kürnberger, Dietmar von Aist, Rhine pioneer Friedrich von Hausen (c. 1150-11990), Heinrich von Morungen, a representative poet of the heyday of the Minnesang period, Reinmar von Hagenau, Walter von der Vogelweide, and Neidhardt of the collapse period all sang about the same theme of love, but each had their own unique expressive technique. However, the genre's productive period ended around 1220, after which it rapidly fell into disuse.

From Walter

…In that sense, he is a representative German poet. He learned the techniques of poetry and composition at the Babenberg court in Vienna, and with Reinmar von Hagenau as his senior and Neidhardt as his junior, he perfected the traditional Minnesang, but at the same time, he also triggered its downfall. He criticized Reinmar's courtly love (the so-called "High Minne") through a series of parodies, and praised "heartfelt love" that is not bound by the constraints of class society, creating pastoral dance songs influenced by medieval Latin lyric poetry, the so-called "Low Minne." This was eventually passed on to Neidhardt, who developed it in a direction Walter had not intended. …
