…Since opening his private observatory in 1841, he continued his observations, and in 1890, after his death, he published a star catalog. It lists the magnitudes and positions of 1,563 stars, including 946 original stars and 617 newly observed stars, and compares them with those of previous observers such as Brahe, Wilhelm IV of Hesse, the 17th century Italian astronomer Giam-battista Riccioli (1598-1671), Ulugh Beg, and Ptolemy. Since there were stars that could not be classified using the traditional division of the major constellations, he created 12 minor constellations. …
