[Classification of glands by type of secretion]
Glands are conveniently divided into the following categories based on the nature of their secretions, but strictly speaking, some glands are difficult to classify into any category, and the classification is quite vague. (1) Serous glands Glands that secrete large amounts of proteinaceous matter, such as the exocrine glands of the pancreas, the chief cells of the fundus gland of the stomach, and the lacrimal glands, are called serous glands. (2) Mucous glands Mucous glands that secrete mucus are found everywhere, including the oral cavity, nasal cavity, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, and digestive tract.
