…A city in the southernmost part of Mesopotamia, in the ancient Sumerian region. During the Early Dynastic Period III in the middle of the 3rd millennium BC, the four main districts of Girsu (now called Telloh), Lagash (now called al-Hiba), Sirara (now called Surghul), and Guabba (now called Guabba) made up the city-state of Lagash. The main palace was in Girsu, and Girsu, Lagash, and Sirara were connected by canals, with Guabba apparently being several tens of kilometers away. …
