…As a prominent figure in British literary and social circles after the First World War, he defended intellectual freedom, criticized conventional delusion, and satirized snobbism. Edith Sitwell (1887-1964), the eldest daughter, did not receive a formal education, but first compiled the annual collection of modern poems, The Wheel (1916-21), which introduced young poets and brought fresh air to the poetry world. As for her own collection of poems, she published her first work, Mother and Other Poems (1915), followed by Façade (1922), which incorporated jazz rhythms. …
