…As a prominent figure in British literary and social circles after the First World War, he defended intellectual freedom, criticized conventional delusion, and satirized snobbism. Edith Sitwell (1887-1964), the eldest daughter, did not receive a formal education, but first compiled the annual collection of modern poems, The Wheel (1916-21), which introduced young poets and brought fresh air to the poetry world.
