A medium-sized carnivorous mammal of the Felidae family with a short tail and long hair on the tips of its ears. It is found in the subarctic forests of Eurasia and North America. Its body length is 85-110 cm, tail length 12-17 cm, and shoulder height 50-75 cm. It has long limbs and large soles, adapted to snowy areas, with dense hair growing between the pads and on the edges of its feet. Its head is round, with long hair on its cheeks, and a tuft of black hair about 4 cm long at the tip of its ears. Its tail is short and black at the end. Its fur is soft and yellowish gray or reddish brown, and it usually has dark spots on its limbs and lower back.
