Morrill Act

Japanese: モリル法 - もりるほう(英語表記)Morrill Act
Morrill Act
In the United States, the law that gave public land to each state for the establishment of agricultural colleges. It was named after Justin Morrill, who proposed it in 1862. Under this law, each state was given 30,000 acres (about 12,000 ha) of public land or public land certificates for each member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the state was allowed to establish colleges teaching agriculture and technology with the proceeds from the sale of these land certificates. These colleges were called "A and M (agricultural and mechanical) colleges" or "land-grant colleges," and many of them eventually grew into state universities.
