Gallus

…It began as a monastery founded in the Swiss mountains (now St. Gallen) in 613 by Gallus (?-627), who accompanied the Irish missionary Columbanus. In 720, the Alamanni Otmar (c. 689-759) established it as a monastery, and it soon became a Benedictine order.
