A former town in Asago County, central Hyogo Prefecture. Occupying the mountainous region in the upper reaches of the Maruyama River, the town produces green onions, soybeans, tea, and other crops. It also produces pulp and building materials, and engages in textile and metal manufacturing. It is home to the Tataragi Power Station, making it a power base town. The Bantan Line runs through the town. In April 2005, it merged with the towns of Ikuno, Wadayama, and San'in in Asago County to become a city, forming Asago City. Area: 130.20 km2 .
