Funktionspsychologie

In 1873, he became professor at the University of Würzburg with his first paper on psychology, "The Psychological Origin of Spatial Representation," and since 1894 he has been professor at the University of Berlin. He was strongly influenced by F. Brentano's action psychology and is considered the founder of German functional psychology Funktionspsychologie. He distinguished between the function of perception and the content of what is perceived, and said that psychology should be primarily concerned with the study of the functions of the mind, and that the study of content belongs to phenomenology.
