...Cicatrical hernias occur in the scarred area after laparotomy. Femoral hernias (also called hip hernias), in which the base of the thigh bulges, are seen in middle-aged and older women. The most common internal hernia is the diaphragmatic hernia, in which abdominal organs escape into the thoracic cavity through the diaphragm, and includes Bochodalek hernias and hiatal hernias.
