...This species is also called snakehead in English. The Taiwanese loach Channa maculata (illustration) is native to southern China, Vietnam, the Philippines, etc., and is called Laihi in Taiwan. It was introduced to Japan at the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Taisho period, and is found in limited areas such as Hyogo, Osaka, and Kyoto.
