[Basal Metabolism]
The minimum efficiency required for a living organism to maintain life is called basal metabolism (abbreviated as BM). In order to exclude functional consumption due to muscle work, etc., it refers to the energy consumed at complete rest, fasting, and at a critical temperature. The daily basal metabolic rate of an adult is said to be 1200-1400 kcal for Japanese people and 1500-2000 kcal for Westerners.
