Casebook in American Business History

…A number of business historians gathered under Glass, published the Business History Review (launched as the Business History Society newsletter), and conducted case studies of many American and European companies, publishing the results of the latter as the Harvard Business History Series. Glass and others also published Casebook in American Business History (1939), which is still used today as a textbook for business history lectures. In 1949, the Center for Entrepreneurial History was established as an interdisciplinary research organization by specialists in various fields such as economic history, sociology, and business administration, centered around AH Cole (1889-1974), also of Harvard University. Entrepreneurial history, which focuses on entrepreneurship, i.e. the performance of entrepreneurs and managers and the social meaning of their activities, developed as a new trend in business administration, different from Glass and others' narrow definition of business history. …
