Carbenium ion

...A term that is the opposite of carbanion, and is a general term for carbonium ions and carbenium ions. A carbocation with a coordination number of 4 or 5 charged carbon atoms is defined as a carbonium ion, and a carbocation with a coordination number of 3 charged carbon atoms is defined as a carbenium ion. This definition was proposed by American G. Olah in 1972, and is now often followed.
