After Caragiale, theatre diversified through the works of (Kamil) Petrescu, George Mihail Zamfirescu (1898-1939), Tudor Muşatescu (1903-70), Mihail Sebastian (1907-45), Mihail Sorbul (1885-1966), Victor Eftimiu (1889-1972), Victor Ion Popa (1895-1946), and, after World War II, Auel Baranga (1913-79), and Horia Lovinescu (1917- ). In the field of literary criticism, novelists George Cálinescu (1899-1965) and Tudor Vianu (1897-1964), who were also known as Eminescu scholars, were active before and after the war, and many outstanding critics and researchers came from their schools. Other notable figures included Edgar Papu (1908- ), Zoe Dumitrescu-Buşulenga (1920- ), Nicolae Balotǎ (1925- ), Adrian Marino (1921- ), and the younger generation, Nicolae Manolescu (1939- ).
