…He came to England in 1862, became a naturalized English citizen in 1867, and established a technology for recovering sulfur, which was discarded in the manufacture of sodium carbonate by the Leblanc process, in Widnes, and industrialized it. In 1872, he obtained the British license to manufacture sodium carbonate by the Solvay process (ammonia soda process) from Belgian industrial chemist E. Solvay, and started an alkali industry together with JT Brunner. In 1881, he founded the company Brunner-Mond. From research into chlorine recovery in 1884, he discovered nickel carbonyl, which he used to establish the nickel refining process (Mond process), and in 1889, he invented producer gas (Mond gas), and established companies in each field, making his fortune. …
