...Criticism of nationalistic bias became widespread within the Polish United Workers' Party, and many party activists who had fought in China during the war, including Secretary General Gomulka, were expelled. In their place, the party was replaced by Moscow exiles led by Central Committee Chairman Bolesław Bierut (1892-1956).
