…Not to mention lyrics and musical scores, dance scores are often linked to the court. In European court dance, dance scores were used from the 1680s by Pierre Beauchamp(s) (1636-1705), a master of the court of Louis XIV, and Raoul-Auger Feuillet (c. 1675-1710) published them as Choreography or the Art of Describing Dance (1700). This court dance score from the model country, France, was published in German in Leipzig in 1705 in a slightly modified form, and it is thought that this method of transmission through written materials helped the Germans to learn from France. …

From the Paris Opera Ballet

…the oldest ballet company in the world. In its early days, Pierre Beauchamp (1636-1705) was a full-time dance teacher and choreographer, making it the cradle of dance classics. Later, Louis Pécourt (1653-1729) and Louis Dupré (1697-1774) developed the technique and style of the dance, but in the 1720s, female dancers Camargo and Marie Sallé (1707-56) began to compete for popularity with the male dancers who had dominated until then. …

From 【French Music】

…Court ballet is said to have originated from the Queen's Ballet Comique (1581) organized by Catherine de Medici, wife of Henry II, and it was customary for the king himself to be a performer. During the reign of Louis XIV, it was established by Lully, Pierre Beauchamp (1636-1705), and others, and after the opera ballet it eventually established the glorious tradition of French ballet, which led to the history of ballet. On the other hand, there was opposition to this court art, for example, Cardinal Mazarin planned to invite Italian operas to perform, but France was the only country to create its own original tragic opera that was not subordinate to the Italian operas. …

From [Choreography]

...A person who does this professionally is called a choreographer. In English, the word choreography originally referred to a method of notating dance, and originated in 1700 when the French Raoul-Auger Feuillet (c. 1660-1710) and Pierre Beauchamp (1636-1705) announced their own method of notation, which they called choréographie. Since then, various methods of notating dance have been devised and choreography has been recorded.
