baggataway

…It is an outdoor sport in which players compete to get the ball into the opponent's goal. It was developed by the British from the traditional ball game called baggataway, which was played by Native Americans living along the St. Lawrence River. It has been played in Canada, the United States, and Commonwealth countries since the mid-19th century. It is similar to hockey, but uses a special lacrosse racket with a rounded triangular net and a long handle, and was named after its resemblance to a crosse.
