Authoritas

In 23 BC, he declined the consecutive years of the consulship on the grounds of the restoration of the republican system, but he was granted the tribuneship and the right of acting senior consul for life, and in 19 BC he was given the powers of consulship and the honorary rights that came with it for life, thus completely establishing his position as the most powerful man in the entire state. Augustus was given authority (auctoritas) that surpassed all others because of his achievement of eliminating the catastrophe of civil war and bringing the peace that everyone desired to the state, and he became the first person (princeps) in the state itself. This is why the state of the state was established by him.
