...Politically, arrondissements are often representatives of the interests of local Democratic Party organizations. In France, 20 arrondissements are established in the city of Paris, and arrondissement committees consisting of city councilors elected from the arrondissements, registrars appointed by the mayor, and members elected by the city council handle some of the local administration. In the UK, since 1963, the Greater London Council has been established as a regional government in the London region, and under it are the City of London and 32 London Boroughs.
