anode

...An electronic conductor or semiconductor that creates an electric field in a system, passes electric current, or extracts electric current from a system. An electrochemical system such as a battery is composed of at least one pair of electrodes. The electrode through which positive charges flow from the electrode to the solution phase is called the anode, and the electrode through which positive charges flow from the solution phase to the electrode is called the cathode. In an electrochemical system, the electrode reaction proceeds in the direction of oxidation at the anode, and in the direction of reduction at the cathode.
