[Early period (3rd to 2nd century BC)]
Latin literature, apart from oral literature, began in the 3rd century BCE, when Livius Andronicus, a native of a Greek city in southern Italy, published the epic poem Odyssia, based on Homer's Odyssey, at the time of Rome's conquest of the Italian peninsula. This was followed by two other epic poems, Naevius's On the Punic Wars and Ennius's Annals.
