A town in Yazu County in the upper reaches of the Hatto River in southeastern Tottori Prefecture. The main settlement, Wakasa, was a castle town for the Yamazaki clan, and later developed as a post town on the Wakasa Kaido road. The Wakasa Railway runs through the town. Most of the area is mountainous, and it was the base of operations for the Inaba woodworkers until the early Meiji period. Forestry is practiced, and the town also produces vegetables and fruit. 鳥取県南東部,八東(はっとう)川上流域の八頭(やず)郡の町。主集落若桜は山崎氏の城下町,のち,若桜街道の宿場町として発達,若桜鉄道が通じる。大部分が山地で明治初期まで因幡(いなば)木地師の根拠地であった。林業を行い,野菜,果樹も産する。戸倉峠,氷ノ山(ひょうのせん)がある。199.18km2。3873人(2010)。
